Center for Inclusive Growth Welcomes Jesse Phillips as Associate Director |
NEW HAVEN, CT (October 9, 2024) – The Center for Inclusive Growth (CIG) is pleased to announce the appointment of Jesse Phillips as Associate Director of Programs, Strategy and Engagement. Phillips, born and raised in New Haven with extensive experience in community development and advocacy, will play a key role in advancing CIG's mission to foster a more equitable and prosperous New Haven.
Launched in March 2024, CIG, a stand-alone organization, was formed through a partnership between the City of New Haven and Yale University. The Center aims to help create a flourishing New Haven where all residents have access to the necessary tools and resources to achieve economic security and contribute positively to a vibrant community.
“Jesse’s deep roots in New Haven and his impressive track record of driving inclusive growth make him an invaluable addition to our team,” said Dawn Leaks Ragsdale, Executive Director of the Center for Inclusive Growth. “His expertise in community engagement and strategic partnerships will be instrumental as we work to create a more equitable and thriving city for all.”
Phillips brings 20 years of experience working with a diverse range of organizations, including statewide advocacy groups, nonprofits, civil rights organizations, and city administration. He most recently served as the Coordinator of Inclusive Growth for the Greater New Haven
Chamber of Commerce, where he facilitated technical assistance, built partnerships between minority-owned businesses and corporations and advanced the Chamber's diversity, equity, and inclusion goals.
“I am thrilled to join the Center for Inclusive Growth and contribute to its vital mission,” said Phillips. “I believe deeply in the potential of New Haven, and I am committed to working collaboratively with residents, businesses, and community partners to create an economy that
works for everyone.”
Kerwin Charles, Dean of the Yale School of Management, emphasized the importance of CIG's work. “The Center for Inclusive Growth embodies the commitment of Yale University to partner with the New Haven community to promote economic opportunity and prosperity for all residents,” said Charles. “We are excited to welcome Jesse Phillips to this important role.”
Mayor Justin Elicker also expressed his support for Phillips’ appointment. "Jesse's dedication to New Haven and his understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing our city make him a perfect fit for the Center for Inclusive Growth," said Elicker. “I look forward to working with him to build a more inclusive New Haven."
Phillips' commitment to community service extends beyond his professional endeavors. He serves on several nonprofit and government boards, including the Tweed New Haven Airport Authority Board, CONNCORP, the CT Anti-Defamation League, and the Shubert Theater of New Haven.
